Description
Tranquille Sanatorium was built in 1907 to treat tuberculosis. A small community known as Tranquille was built around it and was self sufficient with its own farm for food, staff houses, laundry, fire department, morgue, and numerous large hospital buildings for the patients. In 1958, the hospital closed and was reopened in 1959 to treat the mentally ill. It closed permanently in 1983 and most of the buildings were left to fall apart.
Tranquille gained recognition for the wild reports of paranormal activity in the buildings, including orbs floating around the facility, and dramatic temperature changes. Some believe the ghosts of former patients roam the property. You can now take ghost tours through the tunnels at night.
