Description
I picked a bouquet of lilacs today and placed them on the table in the morning sun in an old glass vase of my mother's. Mom used to love lilacs and I remember many walks taken on spring evenings just as the air started to cool flooding the yard with their sweet scent. I was surprised to learn in Wikipedia that lilacs are part of the olive family but not when I remembered the wild Russian Olive trees that grow in this area and how scented their blooms are.
.............................................
Syringa (Lilac) is a genus of about 20 - 25 species of flowering woody plants in the olive family (Oleaceae), native to woodland and scrub from southeastern Europe to eastern Asia, and widely and commonly cultivated in temperate areas elsewhere.
