Description
My kingdom for a telephoto lens!!! Photo available as a card or small picture only. This is a wild Short Tailed Weasel (ermine or stoat) and he seems to have his home under a fence post. The only reason I even saw him was due to the black tip on his tail flying like a little flag as he dashed across the snow for cover. He is very curious though and couldn't resist popping his head out. Weasels have dark brown upper bodies and tails and creamy white to orangish underparts. They assume a white winter coat in northern regions. In the FUR INDUSTRY no distinction is made among the coats of the 3 species; all are marketed as ermine. The weasel's head is bluntly pointed; its ears, small and rounded. The long, slender body has a thick neck and short feet. Photo taken in Kamloops area.

I am smiling! What a wonderful image. Love the red as it allows one to fine the ermine.

A very beautiful capture, Theresa. I love the wonderful contrast with the fence and the snow.... and the little weasel is so cute (and scared)! V&F
